There are currently over 150 million blogs on the internet. While many bloggers labor writing post after post some of them never see any traffic for their hard work. The basic problem is too few bloggers are promoting their blogs the correct way or some are not even promoting them at all. Here are some tips to help those individuals who would like to build readership to see their work.
1. Write longer posts. I see too many blogs that have short posts of only a few hundred words or less. People are more likely to return to blogs with longer and more comprehensive posts. It is also important to add some personality to each post so the reader can get to know the author a little better.
2. Tag every post with related keywords. Doing that brings three benefits. First of all tags help tell search engines what your post is about. Secondly tagging posts gives internal links which also helps in search engine optimization. Finally tags helps readers find your other posts.
3. Promote your posts by writing articles and submitting them to article directories. Include a link to your post url in the article bio box. This is known as deep linking and brings two sources of traffic. You get traffic from the articles themselves and also from the search engine optimization benefits.
4. Bookmark your posts. This brings more links and once again direct traffic from the bookmarking sites and from SEO.
5. Comment on other blogs with a link back to yours. Doing this consistently can bring a lot of traffic and links the search engines love.
6. Build relationships with other bloggers. If you get to know other bloggers you will be able to build readership for each others blogs and build reciprocal links.
7. Submit to blog directories. This is a good way to get some easy links.
If you follow these simple ways to promote your blog you will start to see an increase in your traffic and readership.
